Drift Panel

Chalk-white flock scattered across a charcoal linen ground, close enough to read as a field rather than a pattern. There is no centre and no direction to it, so the panel hangs either way up and looks deliberate both ways.

Flock sits proud of the cloth, which is the point: in flat light the panel reads almost plain, and in raking light every speck throws a small shadow and the surface comes alive. Hang it where light crosses it rather than hits it square on.

• Panel size: 68 x 90 cm approximately
• Ground: heavy slubbed linen, charcoal
• Technique: applied flock, chalk white
• Finish: unframed, hemmed on four sides, with a concealed sleeve at the back for a rod or batten
• Each panel is worked to order and the scatter differs slightly from one to the next
• Sold singly
