Small spiky thistle heads worked in slate blue and antique bronze, scattered across pale oatmeal linen with a good deal of bare ground left between them. Each head is a tight knot of short radiating stitches on a thin stem, so the panel has texture up close and reads as a light speckle from across the room.
The spacing is deliberate. A denser scatter would have turned it into a print; left open, it stays a piece of stitching.
